Great News! After more than a month of being on strike, school bus drivers have returned to work! School Bus Drivers returned to work on Wednesday February 20, 2013. The strike ended this past Friday.
It was a rough month for workers, parents and students. Many students had to rely on carpooling and public transportation.
Unfortunately, 5,000 routes serving the public school system were affected during the strike.
Was the situation resolved?
Amalgamated Transit Union 1181 said members would return after the likely Democratic candidates for mayor promised to revisit the employee protection issue that led to the strike if they are elected.
Each pledged that, if elected, he or she will support job security for the drivers and matrons, which Mayor Bloomberg said was illegal to do in new bus contracts with the city.
Although the strike is over, some workers are still not sure whether or not the strike made an actual difference.
One driver said, “I wish we would have settled the job security act.”
According to officials, the city saved nearly $80 million by not paying for bus service during the strike, but spent over $20 million on alternative transportation for students.

BRONX REAL ESTATE & BRONX HOMES FOR SALE!!
Love at First Sight
You have to look at several homes before you find the one that is right for you. Falling in love with the first home you see is not the best way to approach home buying. Give yourself a chance to see what is out there and then decide once you have seen several homes. If you fall in love at first sight, you may overlook the home’s value and details.
Overpaying for Your Dream Home
If you think you’ve found your “dream home”, you may find yourself overpaying for something that really isn’t realistic for you. Buyers shouldn’t get so attached to a home that they end up financially overextending themselves. A homebuyer may also have difficulty selling a home that they overpaid for. You don’t want to overpay for a home and lose money in the long run.
Obsessing
Every homebuyer has a list of needs and wants for their new home. If you think you have found the perfect home, with the perfect master bedroom but no backyard, don’t keep obsessing over how amazing the bedroom is! Try to realize that you need a home that has more than just one of your needs. As a homebuyer, it’s important not to catch feelings for a home that is not going to work for you in the long run. Try to stay focused on finding a home that is close to suiting most your needs.
Always Thinking There is a Better Deal
Are you a homebuyer that is always looking for a better deal? Even in the best markets, you don’t know if the price of a home will drop or when it will drop. The best thing to do is know the value of the home you are interested in and the area. Doing research can help give you an idea of these values. Try making a bid that is realistic and close to the price range you would ultimately like to end with.
Getting Attached Too Soon
The homebuying process can be a long one. When you sign a contract to buy your new home, don’t put all your eggs into one basket! Sometimes homebuyers sign a contract and don’t realize that issues may come up during inspection or the disclosure. You may discover things along the way that are not working for you. Prepare to be able to let go and move on if necessary.
